History Husqvarna
A trailblazer in motorcycle innovation since 1903, Husqvarna Motorcycles has sustained a continuous production line of its vehicles, establishing itself as one of the most enduring and esteemed motorcycle brands globally.
Over the years, the brand has undergone various transformations. Since its acquisition by the KTM Group, now known as PIERER Mobility AG, in 2013, Husqvarna Motorcycles has entered its most prosperous phase to date, selling over 360,000 motorcycles worldwide. Looking forward, the brand is dedicated to fostering growth, penetrating new markets, and continuously expanding its motorcycle lineup.
Originally founded as a metalworking company in 1689 in Huskvarna, Sweden, Husqvarna began its motorcycle journey in 1903 with the launch of its first motorized bicycle.
In the 1920s and 1930s, Husqvarna Motorcycles began producing competitive street motorcycles, quickly establishing its presence in Europe by participating in prestigious road racing events like the Isle of Man TT. Throughout the ensuing years, a range of high-performance 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines were developed, culminating in five FIM World Championship titles achieved with Husqvarna bikes in the 250cc and 500cc categories between 1960 and 1963.
Having played a crucial role in establishing motocross as a sport in Europe, Husqvarna Motorcycles was instrumental in introducing the sport to the USA. Notable riders from the successful 1960s and 1970s era included Torsten Hallman, Malcolm Smith, and Hollywood icon Steve McQueen.
In 1977, the brand became part of Sweden’s Electrolux Group, and within six years, Husqvarna’s 500cc, 4-stroke motocross model set a new standard for off-road performance. This exceptionally lightweight and agile motorcycle was groundbreaking, becoming the preferred choice for many competitive riders. In 2007, Husqvarna Motorcycles was briefly owned by the BMW Group before joining PIERER Mobility AG in 2013.
Since the acquisition, Husqvarna Motorcycles has launched an impressive array of both on-road and off-road models. Each machine is meticulously assembled with attention to detail, incorporating state-of-the-art technology and inspired by the brand’s rich heritage. With over a dozen high-tech, class-leading motorcycles tailored for enduro, motocross, and street riding, alongside premium travel machines for global adventures, the brand continues to innovate.
In 2023, Husqvarna Motorcycles marked 120 years of brand legacy and production, celebrating its rich racing history and esteemed status as one of the longest-standing motorcycle manufacturers worldwide.
